Before/After: Hickory Hills Updated Modern | Living Room & Entry
Overview
For this Before and After renovation, almost every part of the home was touched. The homeowners wanted to update the home that they had lived in for over 20 years. They wanted to touch every area of their home but didn’t want to overdo the budget for the neighborhood. They wanted to lighten and brighten their space, update their kitchen without changing out the cabinetry, update all 3 bathrooms, re-think the music studio, and just give the house a fresh appeal.
First, we are going to take a look at the living room and entry. Follow along on future posts as we look at other areas of the home!
Living Room & Entry
- Switching out the entry doors let in a lot more light and immediately gave the space a more updated feel
- Paneling the fireplace immediately gave the space a focal point and is a show stopper
- Updated new wood floors, and paint throughout the house
- Updated stairway by removing the carpet, wrapping each tread in white oak, updating the railing to white oak
- New furniture replaced the existing tired leather seating and gave them a lot more additional seating for their family
The stairway used to be a tired 1970’s flashback with carpet wrapped stairs, rough hewn stringer, rough iron ballusters and a plain painted pine rail.
We were able to switch out the carpet treads for beautiful white oak treads, new smooth black iron balusters and a matching white oak handrail. Adding a black chandelier overhead adds to the instant warmness when you enter the new front door.
The powder room got a pretty glow up with a new mirror, fixtures, and paint job.
